Generac 22KW is easiest oil change of any motorized machine I have
Changed the oil in about 5 minutes tonight. No tools needed. Very smart design.

My lawn mowers take longer and are a bigger pain to change the oil than the generator.

I don't see any reason to buy any maintenance contracts for a generac.

My husband changes ours too. He recently had to replace the battery and said it was a little difficult to remove it.

I'll raise you my wife's old Saturn that you never had to change the oil in, just top it off every couple weeks.

re: Generac 22KW is easiest oil change of any motorized machine I have
Question for anyone who bought the 22kw Generac whole house generator -

Did you buy the extended warranty? The unit is advertised coming a 5 year warranty, but for an additional $300 you can extend to 7 years, and for $600 for 10 years. Is the extended warranty worth the extra money? I'm thinking that with inflation that's not a bad bet. You still have to pay for yearly maintenance and I was told the would be around $150, but I'm not sure about the extended warranty. And yes, I'm seriously thinking about taking the plunge and buying the whole house unit. TIA

I did not buy the extended warranty and I do not pay for yearly maintenance. Anyone telling you that you have to do that is full of crap.

22kw is whole house for most people I would think. It runs mine and I even have a well pump it has to run.

How often should you change the oil?

Battery is the toughest thing to change by far.

I have one that is about 17 years old. I change oil every 100 hours. The only minor issue I have had is the battery. If it gets a bad cell or any problem the unit will not start. It would run through the exerciser every week but when power went out it would not start. Got it to start with a jump start box...

I now replace battery every 2 years.

I love it.
