This is for a new construction build in Ascension Parish.

My pool equipment will be located right next to the main gas line coming into the house.

Do you agree with Grok?

I would get a heat pump so that you can cool the water too. My pool is hot as hell in July and August.

If you're doing a spa, you definitely need a gas heater. You should get a 400,000 BTU. As the other poster said you should definitely get the heat pump to cool your pool, especially if you don't have any shade and you go with the dark plaster. We have a pecan tree that shades ours and the water is around 86 87° right now. But I have to put up with all the crap from the pecan.

Agreed. My folks have a heat pump and a spa and it’s awful when it’s really cold, which is generally when you want to use the spa. Takes forever to heat.

We have a gas heater and a glacier evaporative chiller. Been happy with the setup. Our gas bill is higher in the winter when we’re using the spa more, but knew that going into it. Only gripe is you need to run the glacier overnight, but the operating costs are fairly low.

For reference, we have a 6x6 hot tub. It takes a degree a minute to heat up with 400k btu heater. According to my engineering brother-in-law, those 400,000 BTU water heaters use about $10 of gas an hour. We also have a water feature that I run at night from about 1:00 to 4. :00 a.m. And it really helps. Cool in the pool down. It is on its own pump so there was the cost for that and then of course the electricity to run which is a bad as I have it turned down to a low RPM.

I run a heat/cool heat pump in my pool. No spa and it doesn't change quickly but the dual functionality is nice. I basically use it to extend the season and keep it comfortable in the summer. Cost me about 6k installed on an existing pool.

Can corroborate..Mine too was 6k installed with new pool. You'll want the chiller WAY more than the heater. Assuming no hot tub, go with a heat pump.

Much cheaper to run as well.
