Front door gas lantern - troubleshooting - Primo brand

I have two gas lanterns at my front door. One hasn’t been working right.
I turn the gas on and light it and I have to turn the gas to high before it lights. When it does light, it’s a pure blue flame shooting out maybe 3 inches. Also, it won’t stay without the lighter there because the gas is pushing out too hard (I believe).
My other one is set on a low setting and has an orange flame about 1 inch.
Anyone have an idea of what to do?

get a little brush and clean the tip or take it apart and clean it

I’ve tried cleaning it on the outside but wasn’t sure about cleaning inside or taking it apart. I will try that this weekend.

This. They develop ash-like deposits around the orifice and sometimes crud gets into the valve assembly too. Wire brush, welding tip cleaner, maybe a small wrench are all you need.

I’m assuming the nozzle unscrews after the gas valve? I’ll check it out.

Gas lines also carry debris that can clog the tips. I take mine off and soak it and wire brush and soak again.
