Maybe I'm just a cheap SOB, but got dang, the filters for our refrigerator are expensive. KitchenAid fridge with "Filter 2" filter type (item/part no. W10413645A).

These run +/- $50/per at Home Depot and similar stores. Not any cheaper online, unless you get an off-brand.

Anyone else use buy these same filters? If so, recommend me an alternative, cheaper option, and where to purchase.

Could I install an inline filter behind the refrigerator. Is that a viable option? If so, brand / setup to consider?

Thanks

Edit: you would have to bypass the OEM filter to run something in-line plus you’d have to pull your fridge out to swap it. $50 isn’t that much considering these filters last for like 3+ months.

I ordered some cheapers off Amazon. They were fake arse chinese shite. Wouldn't lock into place. Luckily amazon let me return them.

For my Kenmore, I buy Aqua Crest filters from Amazon. $21 for a 3 pack. They work fine and I can change them often if I feel like it.

We don’t use the ice maker much at all but we do use the water dispenser often. Once the kids are out of the house, I’m going to swap to a Brita pitcher or maybe just some other pitcher to get tapwater cold and forget about the filtering altogether.

The cheap filters can be just as good so some companies are putting rfid chips in the filters so you have to go oem.

I did the same thing…they said they were OEM filters. However, they did not have the chip in them and therefore wouldn’t work. Pissed me off.

I have been using an online filter source, for more than 5 years, that is roughly 50% cheaper on filters for my Whirlpool fridge, and prior to that my Ammana fridge. I change my filter about every 10 months. I also buy them in lots of three.

The filter I need is $68/per in that site. It is high everywhere, though, just not that high.
