Driving me nuts. Home remodeling done 11 years ago, had to install smoke alarms in every room per code. Done professionally. All are interconnected.

Replaced 9V batteries once every couple years when one chirps, do all of them. Last time replaced was a couple months ago.

Last night one started chirping at 5 a.m. Gotbup. Replaced battery. Still chirping.

Bought new detector today, replaced it, still chirping.

Went around to all of them, pulled batteries, tested batteries all 9+ V, turned off power, still chirped with no power or battery.

Put all batteries back in, turned power back on, still chirping.

What next?

I’m calling First Alert tomorrow to see what they have to say.

Anyone ever have this problem? How did you fix it?

I believe they’re good for ten years. The way it chirps will tell you if it need replacing - number of counts or pattern. Had to replace one in daughter’s house.

You are supposed to change out your fire alarms every 10 years. Mine did the same until I bought all new ones

Older than 10 years?

Might as well buy enough to replace them all.

My experience is they only start chirping in the middle of the night. I don’t know how they know to do that, but they do.

It’s been a while but I remember having to follow directions found online to get it to stop chirping after replacing the entire detector. It involved switching the breaker on/off. Even if it has a battery on the detector, it still may be hardwired into your home and part of the reset involves switching the power on/off.

Wish I had more info., like I said it’s been a few years. Maybe try typing the model into YouTube and/or Google.

This!!!! I get irrationally angry when those damn things start chirping at 3 am. Never fails.

I live in an old house and mine aren’t hardwired, but my mom’s house had an issue once and if I remember correctly there was a battery somewhere in the system I had to replace for her that was not in a detector itself, but in a panel or something somewhere. My memory is fuzzy, but I swear that is tucked in there somewhere.

Any chance you have one in the attic or workshop? If its still chirping after replacing all of them, then it sounds like you missed a sensor somewhere.

there is a scientific reason for that, and it has to do with the lower temperatures at night wreaking havoc on the battery

It’s the temperature. Mine chirp when it gets under 70

I changed the batteries and it stopped

Only other thing I would try:

Take it off, unplug the hard wire, take the battery out, hold the test button...it should beep and then die out completely. Put battery back in and the replug everything.
