When do you fellas normally put out your fall pre-emergent? I've just starting applying in the spring the last 2 years but never applied in the fall.
I'm in South MS, St. Aug and Centipede mix. Thanks.

Late Sept-early Oct - but technically when soil temps approach 70 F, a temperature at which some cool season weed seeds begin to germinate.

Thanks for this. Is there a particular type to use that is better in the fall than the other?

Centipede here
I've gone the easy route of getting Lesco 0-0-7 at Lowe's. That is fine.
This Fall I plan on spending a little more and going with The Anderson's Barricade.
I'm on my 3rd year of maintenance including a Spring and Fall application of pre emergent. I'm quite satisfied. Be patient. It's a gradual thing but just keep it up. You'll be rewarded in the long run.
The only thing I still have issues with is Virginia Buttonweed although there has been improvement.
Apply Spring as things begin to liven up and again late September/early August.

Specticle is the top dog. One app and done. Simazine done as a split app is the second choice.

As ronk said, Specticle is top notch. Now if you are not familiar with it, be advised it is much more expensive than other pre-emergents, $316 for a 18 oz bottle (Specticle Flo). When using the spray version Specticle Flo, recalling from memory, it cost about $3 per 1000 sq ft or roughly $30 for a 10,000 sq ft lawn which I find to be a very reasonable price for weed control. You’ll get 3 or 4 years of 2 or 3 applications per year with a 10,000 sq ft lawn with that 18 oz bottle when used at labeled application rates.
