Exterior paint

I'm prepping my house to sell and needing to touch up some exterior paint. What's my best approach? Should I just take a chip of paint somewhere to get it matched? If so, where should I go? Sherwin? Appreciate any advice

Sherwin will be fine. What color are you touching up?

touchups always look like touchups, its because paint fades with the sun.
if you are getting ready to sell then just get the house painted and be done with it and not try to save a few dollars that can cost you thousands at the sale. whatever the painting costs, it will more then return that in the sale price

unless it's an absolute dump, they're probably going to make money on it
just match the paint to the faded color, not the original

They can get close, if not right on the color with their computer assisted color match.
The problem you will have is the sheen of the paint. If you painted the house with a satin or semi-gloss initially, the new paint will have the new paint sheen while the rest will be dull by comparison.
If this is a brick house and you're just trying to paint the overhang and eaves, then just paint it all. If a wood house and needing to paint the whole thing----I'd still paint it all, but I don't mind painting----you obviously feel differently and want to do the patch job.
Truth is, chances are the new owners will at some time change the color of the body of the house to suit their needs, so just touchup and be ready for possible negotiations on the price.
