I have the Ego Edger, Weedeater, and Hedge Trimmer and my push mower is on its' last leg. Was going to wait until it died but Lowes has a couple of units on sale - can't decide which one.

Option 1 - EGO POWER+ 56-volt 21-in Self-propelled Cordless Lawn Mower 6 Ah (Battery & Charger Included) Model #LM2114SP. Was $549 and on sale for $499.

I was going to go with the one above but they just put the following one on sale.

Option 2 - EGO POWER+ Select Cut 56-volt 21-in Touch Drive Self-propelled Cordless Lawn Mower 7.5 Ah (Battery & Charger Included). Model #LM2135SP. Was $749 and on sale (till May 18) for $599.

Option 2 has 7.5ah (vs 6), "select cut" (which means it comes with a couple of blades - 1 for mulching). Option 2 also has "touch" drive while option 1 has normal self-propel controls (not sure it makes much of a difference).

I had a big yard and ZTR for years. The yard I have now (we downsized as all the kids are out of the house) is small so battery life is not an issue and think the 6ah (option 1) will work fine.

Option 1 will do everything I need but I am also one of those "bigger is better" people (to a fault).

Thanks in advance for your input!

i was literally just browsing this on the Lowes page when I flipped back over to this thread. The $150/off is definitely appealing.

i too have a weedeater, chainsaw, hedge trimmer & blower from EGO so i have a bunch of batteries already but i have 2 concerns:

1. plastic deck. did you see the reviewer under the Select Cut who said a small rock was picked up and shot a hole through it?

2. i've got 3/4 of an acre and its not level so i worry the battery will get eaten up. i have a personal pace now and let that drag me up a couple of the inclines now.

its around 2 hours now for me to mow so i don't see the one battery doing it for me.

Don’t need self propelled on the ego unless your wife is going to cut, it’s light as hell Baw.

oh interesting. hmm. i hadn't really thought of that.

i have to run mine after i'm done w/ my yard to get it back up to the shed b/c i'm exhausted and its heavy as frick.

how bad does the grass clog? i don't have the luxury of waiting for the grass to always be bone dry and my super-recyler is AWFUL about coating the underside with grass mud.

$100 for select cut and bigger battery is worth it. I would get another tool that comes with a battery. I can usually cut our grass with just the 7.5 but occasionally I will need to swap it, usually it isn't dead it just hits the thermal shutoff from using it in 100 degree Louisiana weather. I don't see that as a negative, I just put it in the blower after I am done and it finishes that job just fine.

i agree; also i saw someone say don't waste money on an EGO with only one blade; you need the dual blades so whichever model you get; make sure you've got the dual blade system.

how big is your lot?

my backyard is a BITCH. i'm not worried about the front and maybe this would give me a chance to edge & blow while letting the battery charge before starting in the back.

did i read where it can recharge in 1 hour? that would honestly be about right; it takes that long to edge & blow front & back.

I think both models that I listed share the same deck so do not think that is exclusive to the Select Cut model - but I could be wrong.

I have been looking at a bunch of reviews and most said the 6ah easily goes for an hour (or more) per charge. Of course that depends on how tall and thick (and wet) your grass is. Obviously battery performance degrades over time.

The good news is all the batteries are interchangeable so you could always pop one of your others in to finish the job.

Both of my neighbors have Ego push mowers (one for 2 years) and both are very satisfied.

I use the non-self propelled one but have it upgraded with the dual mulch blade.

I can’t really comment on the grass clogging, I cut when it’s dry and typically don’t let it get very long.

Bigger battery is a must. Keep the blades sharp. They're very easy to take apart. You really don't need the self-propel feature since it's mostly plastic and very lightweight. We got this one. It will drain fast in high grass. The charger that this comes with is one of their faster chargers and comes in handy. I have several batteries and can usually get through all that I need on my lot with all three (cut/edge/weed eat/blow) and I throw the bigger battery on the charger when it gets low in case I need to get back on it later.

The second option should be a brushless system (I do not believe the first option is) and that makes a hell of a difference when cutting through dense lawns. It kicks arse.

I've only had the clogging issues when it's not dry out. I think the side ejection attachment is pretty useful if that's what OP plans to use as well.

Lol here I am in line at Lowe's.

Went with option 2 and it cost me $499 because I let them sucker me into A Lowe's card and got another $100 off. I don't care. I'm old and my credit is fine.

Make sure you IMMEDIATELY register your mower/battery/charger as soon as you get home.

i bought the chainsaw as a refurb and did no paperwork whatsoever and i called about a battery not charging; turned out it was just cycling so it wasn't charging at that moment but they took some basic info and were ready to ship me a new free battery when i realized it was charging and cancelled it.

the short story is the nice lady on the phone asked me everything i had and when i bought it and she just starting filling out the registration right then..without any documentation whatsoever from me but my memory.

but yes, with this mac-daddy i'm definitely registering it right away.

lol i woke up this morning 100% convinced i was going to buy a $1k honda and now look where i am.

The one thing I noticed between my EGO and Toro:

On the Toro, if I hit an exposed tree root, it would stop the mower altogether.

If I hit it with the EGO, it would bend my blade to where it would be cutting into the dirt. I'd have to bust out the sledgehammer and flatten it out.

If you run into that issue, you will notice a difference in performance. The mower will be louder under normal mowing conditions and will drain the battery more. I know it's probably more of a "just be careful" scenario but that's my only negative experience with my EGO.

Also, look to see what the height settings are for your mower so you can cut accordingly. I believe EGO goes from 1.5" to 4"

i'll have to experiment and also make sure those stones in my yard that i run over now that 'sharpen' my toro blade are removed.

I just did the same thing online. It gave me 20% off, so I got it for $479 plus tax. I'll pick it up on my way home. My 12 year old Honda has the handlebar rusting through on both sides, and it was time for an upgrade.

I will. I've had the EGO blower for 5 years now, hedge trimmer for 3 and I got the chainsaw a little over a year ago. After installing our pool a few years ago and all the landscaping around it, my backyard that used to take a while to mow only takes about 15 minutes now. Front is more like 5. So this should be a good option for me.

I have nothing bad to say about my Honda mower. It's served me well for a long time.
