Driveway Gate

Good morning just bought my first home and I am looking to do a self install on a driveway gate with the whole remotes battery opener and all that.
My question is looking online it says to get a fence with a bigger width than the actual driveway.
My driveway measures 11ft 7 inches
Looking online it says to get a gate with a width of 12ft
Anyone have experience with this that could help me know if this is correct?

You need to figure out where your posts are going first, measure that distance from edge to edge, not middle to middle. Not sure what the gap should be on each side, but i'd think about 3" between the post and gate on each side would suffice.
And if you're doing one gate, your post is going to be long and heavy as shite. You're going to be burying that bastard a good 6 feet in the ground. It's a bitch digging that out if you're doing it yourself. I installed mine by myself, well, i needed two other guys to help put the post in, and hang the gate onto the post.

I have a single gate and it eventually started sagging and became hard to open and close because the far end was dragging on the ground. I tried to adjust the gate but the post continued to lean more.
I am now trying to figure out how to retrofit my single swinging gate to be a rolling gate, this would eliminate the forces pulling the gate post.
If I were starting from scratch, I would go with a double swinging gate (meets in the middle) or have a rolling gate.

12’ is a LONG gate.
I would get a double swing gate and put the wheels on both sides. It’s better to over build than under.

I’d go with a Cantilever Slide Gate. That’s what I have. I don’t have power to it yet but can add later for about $2500. Solar would be around $3-3500.
My driveway’s 18’ and the gate rolls with relative ease and I have no wheel.
ETA:
ETA 2: This is a new install but replaces exactly what I had for five years prior to the storms.

My gate was 12' and on a single post.
That post is 6 feet in the ground, and i used i think 8 bags of concrete. That was installed 12 years ago and it still is doing just fine, no sagging.
If you're post is leaning from the weight of the gate, then you either have some really soft soil or you didn't get a big enough post.
Nothign wrong with going with a double gate though, but that means you have to buy two openers.

Appreciate the answers. I think I will be ok with a 12ft gate cause like it was stated above better to go over than under.
I ended up going with a Topens gate opener. Hopefully it works out lol
