I have been in my house for a couple months now and planning to put mulch in the front and sides of house since right now it has pine straw. I hate the way the line straw looks but someone at work mentioned that mulch brings in roaches like crazy.

Is this true? And if so is there a way to prevent this and still have mulch?

No problems here, But I will be switching over to pine needles in the spring. Oh, I only use hardwood mulch. Cypress just drifts away on a hard rain. I had hear that pine bark mulch can harbor roaches.

True this. I had 2 bags of mulch stored in an area that occasionally got wet when it rained heavily. After a couple months I decided to use that mulch and when I split open the bags to put in my wheelbarrow, it was loaded with termites.

I bagged it up in heavy duty trash bags and tossed it in the garbage can to be hauled away.

Simply not true. Termites are subterranean species that are in everyone soil in every state of our country. Termites cannot survive the mulching process and cannot survive on ground wood mulch. Many university studies prove this out. Termites move looking for moisture and dense weed, not ground wood, like mulches.
