I live in an area with main streets lined with huge oak trees and the buck moths are now out in force and crawling on sidewalks, lawns, down the back of your shirt when they fall out of the trees and sting the crap out of you.

At least my neighbor, who has a huge live oak in his yard sprays it every year to help keep them at bay, but the property owners on the streets that are lined with them just put up with it while it lasts.

I'm 1/2 a block off the main drag and counted 5 of those nasty bastards on my sidewalk and driveway on the way to my truck earlier today.

I find their sting to be one of the worst when it comes to caterpillars. Damn things burn way too long once they hit you.

Worst one I ever got was walking down the street to go to the neighborhood store and one hit my shirt collar and went down my back. That shite hurt with multiple stings until I could get it out.

Must have looked funny as hell to anyone looking. That's when I took to wearing an "Indiana Jones" style hat when buck moths were out and about.

my great grandmother used to tear open a cigarette, mix the tobacco with ponds cold cream, and apply to the sting when i was a kid. it worked (i think)

My grandma did similar when I got stung by wasps. The difference was, she'd chew the tobacco a bit and then put it on the sting wet to take the pain away. Not so sure it really worked, but an "A" for effort.
