I have a bunch of crepe myrtle sprouts popping up in my side yard. Is there a way to kill them?

I pull them up when they first emerge

They just keep coming back. I tried to dig them up and apparently, they are coming off a root.

Yeah
I really don’t think there’s anything you can do other than pull them

I read you can spray them with 2-4D regularly, and it will eventually kill the root.

Dig up/cut off root.

you need to cut open the root/stump and immediately apply round up, etc, liberally.
I cut down a crepe a couple years ago. I still was getting plenty sprouts off the stump.
I took the chainsaw and cut 2" off the stump, and immediately and literally paint brushed on excessive round up to the stump and I have not seen a sprout since.
if you wait after cutting, the cells will close up and the chemical will not be as effective.

I love ours. Have to have the right spot for them.
I've removed a couple just for construction/addition and 5 years later the sprouts still come up in the green lawn though

And you need to pick the right variety. Crape myrtles come in all sizes and lots of colors.

I cut some down that someone had murdered previous to me owning the house.... I drilled holes in the stump and poured parquat down the holes. It still comes back. I just keep spraying it with the paraquat.

I remembered my neighbor handled his differently and it worked. Dug a trench around the stump in the ground as best he could, layered firewood on it, covered it in kerosene and burned it.
His has not come back.
