confederate jasmine not growing

i planted a confederate jasmine plant in a whiskey barrel planter spring of 2023, and all that spring and summer it grew like crazy. however, it's like the winter put the brakes on it, and it hasnt grown ANY this spring or summer. it seems to be in fine health, and it bloomed out nicely in the spring, however, it just hasnt spread a bit. it's in full sun, and i think i keep it appropriately watered. is it possible that it's because it's in a whiskey barrel planter and not in the ground? i have two other ones nearby in the ground, and they're still growing like crazy.

Water it a ton. Mine are still in pots and need water regularly. They are loving this weather.

feels like i water it a ton already, plus we've been getting rain. when you say "a ton", how much do you think it should be watered? the ones in the ground hardly ever get water unless it rains or i run the sprinkler, and they are going like crazy. just seems weird

about 15 years ago I planted two of them on opposite sides of a wooden arbor, both in barrels. Since then the barrels have rotted away, they’ve rooted in the ground and have basically achieved escape velocity. They crushed the arbor, got up into my ligustrums and damn near closed off the side entrance to my house
I’ve never watered them
how that helps you I’ve no idea but once the weather cools off I’m going to rent an excavator and get rid of them

Today I learned that google changes the name of Confederate Jasmine to Star Jasmine.

Escape velocity is my goal. You can't ever have too much Confederate jasmine in my opinion.

So fricking stupid.

I make sure the soil is never dry. Never flooded, but very damp.

Maybe try pruning a bit. Seems like every time I cut mine back, they sprout new growth and spread even faster.

Interested in this myself. We planted 7 in April to replace our bougainvilleas that died in the freeze. 2 died pretty quick and one looks like it’s dying. The others are just now starting to grow and I replaced 3 (2 dead and one was starting to look bad)

You're like the bizarro world version of me. I've been fighting confederate jasmine since I moved into my house and I'm getting my arse whipped. I hate it

I planted 3 in their own rectangular pot last summer up against a fence for them to climb and cover. I put them in the pot so I could use the weedeater around them and the fence and not damage the plants.
They did well into this spring then suddenly wilted although the weather was perfect. I thought they had died. I had some neighbors over for a function and one suggested cutting a portion of the bottom of the pot out in order to let the roots get into the ground. I did that 3 wks ago and have noticed new blooms this wk. Maybe they got root bound.

It’s because of the pot. I cut the bottom out of my pot and it took off.

looks like multiple votes for the pot being to blame. seems crazy, being as big as it is, but i guess if how much and how fast it grew initially is an indication of how fast the root system grew to mirror, it makes sense.
