Chamberlin garage door opener questions

morning all,
cheaper to replace the opener than to buy a new card, however I've run across a couple of issues...
what I've sorted out: found out that I couldn't use the old push button but had to replace it...thankfully it works with the installed wire...
what I haven't sorted out:
keyless entry and the sensors...
does the system have to be all the way hooked up before mating the keyless entry with the system (that goes for the older openers as well?)
sensors...seem to have the same sort of problem that I had with the button, have exchanged old sensors for new...but right now the only way I've gotten it to work is to tape the 2 old sensors eye to eye, then wire them in...kimchi rig all the way but until I can break the code it works...
any suggestions?

trust me. i had a piece of shite chamberlain myQ for too many years and took a hammer to it out of frustration.
if you have alexa you're going to LOVE it when you tell her 'good night' and she says "your garage door and front door lock are both still open, would you like me to lock it and close your garage for you?"
chamberlain got greedy and they make you buy into their whole ecosystem where these other units simply twist-tie into the 2 doorbell wires so they will work with...EVERY GARAGE DOOR. the final straw was charging a monthly fee to use IFTTT for a feature that should be the most BASIC FEATURE for a garage door opener. wtf chamberlain?
so in short, i recommend going with a universal unit that can be voice controlled and amazon is pushing that one so its on sale right now.
