Ceiling vents leaking water

My ceiling vents started to drip water over the last few days. Several have water stains around them now. Most recent one this afternoon needed a bucket under the drip.
I went and thoroughly checked the attic and there’s nothing leaking from the roof. Seems like condensate forming, but why all of a sudden? Why to the point of requiring a bucket to catch the leak?

Checks your upstream ducts for a joint failure that is allowing humid air into the ducts

Do you have a window open? If you have double sash windows, the top window could have slipped down an inch. The hot air would stay up along the ceiling and wouldn’t be very noticeable, but would produce a lot of condensation.

I woke up one night to a smoke alarm going off and investigated. Water was dripping down from the smoke alarm and I guess shorted it out in a way to make it go off. I went into the attic and saw that the condensation pan had overflowed and the water eventually flowed to the spot with the smoke alarm, puddled there, and eventually started dripping through to the living area below. The water flowed below the blown insulation so it was tough to see.
It sounds like you checked for a roof leak so I hope this isn’t a waste of your time but consider that possibility although a condensation issue is sounds more likely.

Could be multiple reasons including those stated by others - leak in return air ducts, open window, etc. I’ll throw in another - could be a possible harbinger of low refrigerant charge resulting in colder air exiting the supply registers, or a restricted HVAC air filter causing the same thing -colder air supply registers, etc.
Read this article that explains the cause and areas to start looking. Do you have the means to check air temperature exiting your supply registers (vents) and relative humidity in your house?
