My experience has been that a lot of products on Amazon, while cheaper, are seconds. Meaning they were rejected by QC to go to retail and so they are sold at outlet or Amazon. I’m not saying all, but definitely a lot. I personally would not buy plumbing fixtures from Amazon. They are 10–20 year investment and a pain in the arse if they fail.

I would definitely buy light fixtures though.

About a decade ago, we did some renovations that involved a couple of bathrooms. Converted an existing bath in the hallway into a laundry room and half bath. Then converted our old den to a master bath with dual sink vanity, clawfoot tub, and another room has the shower stall and toilet.

The only thing the contractor provided was pipes, they installed everything I had bought elsewhere. No issues there, and I think I've had one valve go bad among the three sinks, two toilets, bathtub and shower. Replaced it myself one afternoon. All of this was bought from Lowe's, Amazon, Overstock etc. Just pieced it together and ordered what we wanted and once we had it all in I called to schedule the work.

We probably saved a little bit and have been happy with it all. The only real savings though were finding items marked down or on some special. I was picking between faucets that looked almost identical, and one might have been 20-30% off at the time so I went with that. Buying a tub from the Lowe's website really didn't save me much, plus they would deliver it. I can't remember where we ordered the shower kit from. Faucets and shower valve and head were Amazon. The vanities were Overstock.

We did the same thing when we had a new deck built 2.5 years ago. I told the main contractor where we wanted outlets and boxes for lights, and they supplied all the wiring and outlets, and most switches. We bought the fans and lights and they did the install. Could have done that myself, but they just put them up right after they wired in the boxes.

Never.

I was asked to install an Amazon faucet and the piping was too small. Must have been for a different country.

It was also Chinese made junk.

I do custom builds and bathrooms. I’ve had nightmares with clients ordering no name plumbing trims, valves & fixture online. Probably 8 out of 10 times something is messed up with the order.

On another note, bravo for online electrical fixtures and hardware. Go for it.
