So I have a carport against the rear of my home. The corner of the carport is even with the corner of the house. The house has vinyl siding at the corner.

I'm enclosing one end of the carport and installing vinyl siding on that wall. I do not wish to compromise the vinyl of the house at all. What is the official way to make the connection?

My current idea is to install a second corner vinyl corner directly against the home, but do not physically connect them at all. The idea being, if we encounter a storm strong enough to send the carport skyward, it has less potential of damaging the home.

just just run the new trim against the old trim so you have no mechanical connection. it will just be double trim there but it will look fine

Use J-channel next to the existing corner. Run a bead of Lexel next to existing corner before installing new J-channel.
