I had centipede sod put in a year ago. It's thriving everywhere except the front of my north facing porch. It gets shade all day and the centipede is not faring well there.
I'm strongly considering putting in bushes (or other suggestions) in that area. What are recommended bushes that thrive in shade?

You could always put in a shade garden with some hostas, caladiums, violets, etc.

Camellias favor shade more than full sun.

Full shade all day long, or partial shade (few hours of sun/filtered sun)? I have shi shi gashira camellias (Louisiana Super Plant) and Fashion azaleas along a north facing porch (they get a 3-4 hours of sun daily) and they thrive.

I planted Florida star anise for a shade hedge a year ago. So far so good.

Ask a local nursery if it can take the colder Cen La winters.

Best shrub in my entire landscape. Can take full sun, too, but they prefer partial shade.
