Blinds between glass panes
Posted by RJL2 on 3/24/19 at 2:23 pm01
I was viewing some properties for my dad today and one of the houses had French doors with mini blinds between the glass panes.
I had never seen this before and its a really cool feature. Anyone have these? I think they'd be perfect for my French doors in the back and the cats won't be able to frick with them
How much do they run to install? Would I have to replace the glass pane or could they be added on somehow?

they are good for adults but not with kids.
kids slamming doors gets the blinds out of whack and if they ever tangled its a real PITA to reset it
they are really good and never get dirty but as mentioned, kids can be an issue sometimes

You buy the doors with them already built in . We have a set of those doors that we added when we expanded our master bedroom and bathroom. Our contractor got them directly from Lowe’s I believe.
They are nice. Each door has a pair of two up-and-down slide knobs. One opens and closes the blinds. The other raises and lowers the blinds. It’s a nice feature to look out into the backyard.

Typically, yes. There are inserts available for existing doors but they raise the profile of the door.

My grandparents had them in their house they built they retired to in the mid 90’s. I remember being told never touch the thing that moves the blinds, or the windows. Never thought of how delicate these they are until this thread. lol

Do y’all have them for windows?

Odl makes a non add on type where you just replace the insert in your door.
Most of the composite and metal door manufacturers that I’ve seen that offer them as an option when you buy have them as a separate item for their doors to allow you to swap them out later. Those are generally brand specific though I’m sure the only thing you really have to match is the opening size.
I think the OP had custom doors but not certain, I probably should have mention that as an option.
Where do you work?
