I'll ask him for a few options. I trust his opinion, just not ready to open that wallet!

I have a Trane unit in the house I just purchased with a manufacturer date on it of 1994.

Knock on wood - I hope it doesn’t crap out on you tomorrow

Some of these systems last far beyond their expected life. I watch YouTube HVAC repair videos by a guy in MA who routinely repairs 20-25 year old HVACs. Their systems don’t get nearly the run time as much as we do in the South so they apparently last longer. From what I read average expected life expectancy is 13-15 years in the South.

My trane lasted over 30years
And it did not go but the evap coil and I needed to change both cause they needed to stay compatible
My ac guy has been the same for over 20 years and every year came out to service it and said let’s try one more year!
He recommended I bite the bullet this time but said I had the longest lasting one he ever saw. They have a manufacturing date in them some where

Good luck I hope you get another five years out of it
Btw I lived in Houston but only used that house a couple weeks each month for the last ten years

When I replaced my units in my last house the first guy quoted me on Amanas. Price was nearly double what I ended up paying for Ruuds.

He quoted me $4500. That's labor and all. Amana 5ton unit.

Certain parts come with a lifetime replacement warranty, a 10yr warranty and entire system has 2yr labor. All non-transferable.

I asked him to quite other makes also. We'll see.

Dang, that’s cheap - less than $1000 per ton - you’re not likely going to get a better price than that. I was quoted about double that for 4-ton single-stage Trane units last summer, 1 year labor.

We have a 5 ton American Standard (same thing as a Trane) and it's the coldest ac I've ever had. Ours is only a 2012 though. I hope I get 10 more years out of it.

That’s a great price. Significantly less than what I was quoted on smaller units.

My A/C did the same thing. HVAC guy that I used to work with replaced the coils. Freezes me out now. Less than $1000

If he wants to drive to Alex and slap one in for that price he can head my way. I was quoted 6500 for replacing my 5 ton unit

Dont buy Amana ! I had one and when ever the power went out for a second, I had to flip the breaker outside and wait 30 minutes before turning it back on.

I called Amana and they told me to follow those steps, freaking crazy.

I now have an American Standard that was almost completely under water in Hurricane Harvey and it works like a Champ.

Spend a few extra dollars and get the Gold Series.
