We have quartz. Wanted mostly white with very little, but consistent "veining". Couldn't find it in anything natural and quartz is as good as anything for wear and tear.

whoever said granite is a PITA...WTF how?

had granite in old house, going with quartz in the new house.

Still think marble looks the best but with 3 kids, its a no go. Would be stained red from kool aid within a year.

thing i dont like about quartz is the no hot pots on the counter. Im bad about that and will have to change.

That's what we are looking for.
What is the going rate for having quartz installed?

We got 3 cm installed. Picture below for reference of size (not huge, but not tiny). We paid $6400 I think for the countertops. We had backsplash and flooring throughout the house done by the same place so would have to take that into account for how much they were willing to negotiate. They cut us a very good deal compared to everyone else. I'm in the Houston area and could shop around. People were very willing to negotiate to get the work at the time.

Heat resistance and stain resistance are in the following order: 1. Quartz (ie Caesarstone) 2. Soapstone 3. Quartzite (ie victoria falls) 4. Granite 5. Marble 6. Concrete

Quartz is not heat resistant. A hot pot will scorch it.

I am not a fan of quartz. I like natural and quartzite is my favorite.

This was my understanding additionally. Quartz is just man made and as of 2 years ago or so there were a lot of promises but with just a couple questions and digging there was very little actual guarantees as far as stains and placing hot pans on it. White is great, I get that its clean. But white is the most easily stained also, and its very difficult.

I don't know that every quartz is equal, but we've had tomato sauce, kool-aid, wine, etc on the counter with no issues. Some for extended periods of time.
