I got about 3 acres that I’m about to have dirt work on in the Watson area to get ready for my new house. What would y’all recommend for grass after the construction is completed. There is no way I could afford to sod 3 acres. I’ve looked into hydroseeding which looks like a viable option. The grass would get full sun except for a little shade on one side from the wood line.

Get an improved Bermuda seed. You don't have to baby it and can spray almost anything on it. I have a full acre and have no regrets.

Bermuda certainly seems like a good choice.

If you want grass right away, hydro seeding that much acreage is an option. It’s much cheaper than sod, but still pretty expensive.

I sodded around the house when we built and am working rest of the yard in small areas at a time with just seeds and sprinklers. I got about 3/4-1 acre done last year (2-3 months) with Bermuda seeds. I’m hoping to get the rest of it done this year. It takes some time, but I had plenty of that last year.

Just throw a ton of Bermuda seed down and water the frick out of it.

It’ll take over before you know it.

I won’t speak for DC since he did hydroseeding, but I started with Arden 15/Princess 77 because it germinated quickly. However, it’s super expensive and not always readily available. I’m planning to use Sahara in the future.

I think DC did “Dune Bermuda”. This is what my hydroseeding guy suggested as well. I wasn’t able to find much about it, and couldn’t find it available as seeds.

Do you want lawn grass on the entire 3 acres? If so then like other say, Bermuda. You will need to wait until the weather warms up to seed it.

I don't have 3 acres, but I do have a half-acre yard and it is currently being destroyed with pool construction. My rough satellite estimates suggest I'd need about 14 pallets to redo my backyard. (full sun except the areas immediately to the north of the house that get shadowed in the winter)

At 14 pallets...is sod still my best option? Pretty sure my lawn has been a mix of centipede and st. aug. It has deteriorated in recent years and I was thinking it might be time to re-do it.

I also have a bunch of low spots and was starting to bring in half yards of sand to fill before the giant equipment tore shite up worse.

Yes. Sod is pretty much always the best option except where it becomes too expensive, but that’s strictly financial. 14 pallets is still just one truck from most suppliers.

Bermuda seed in spring. It’ll own it if it’s in the sun.
