I've neglected my yard but have been reading the board and been trying to turn things around.
I sprayed clegg's cocktail in mid-February, 0-0-7 first week of March, and spit treated with Atrazine last week.
Plan on doing fert next week.
But I have some questions about my front yard. Is this some fungus or grub? It never greened up with the rest of the lawn. Is it damage from the frost we had recently? Should I use fert as planned?

The back has been taken over by lots of weeds. I have two 60 lb dogs that have contributed to the problem. I think the clegg's and spot treating is going to take care of the weeds but what is the process going forward? I'll likely just have dirt. Sod it? What is the best sod/seed I can get in Baton Rouge for high traffic areas in full sun? Part of me thinks maybe I just spread micro clover and at least it will be green and I can just seed it for cheap as the dogs tear it up? But I don't know much about lawns.

I can take more pictures or give more information if needed, but looking for some direction from the experts on the board.

I have no advice, but I’m seeing yards all over the place dying at an increasing rate. It’s almost like a fungus of some sort is spreading quickly. Lots of yards in my neighborhood are wiped out.

I’ll respond in a few minutes. Gonna get the wife and kid to bed. You have options that aren’t overly expensive.

You are working with several issues. Your top 3 pictures look like a fungal disease. I’m assuming St Aug because that is the grass in a couple of the bottom pictures. Spread a n 1/8-1/4 inch layer of peat moss on the area. Do not over water thinking it will help.

Picture 4 is dog and traffic damage.
Picture 5 is common bermuda. It is a lawn grass and your best bet to avoid picture 4.
Picture 6 is poa annua. Annual winter grass best treated with pre em’s in the fall. No worries as it will be gone in a month.
Picture 7 is ground ivy. Msm will kill it.
Picture 8 is wild violet. Repeated applications of msm will kill it.

Fungus doesn’t appear to be active as I see no yellowing. I wouldn’t suggest a fungicide because of that. There is no grub or insect damage. No insecticide needed. Look for a fertilizer similar to 20-20-10 for the front yard.

The back will be fubared with the dogs unless you go bermuda. Common is already growing so buy a cheap Bermuda seed and switch over to that.

You can look for bermuda seed at seedland or hancock seed. Prices will vary based on your selection. Blackjack is good. Arden 15 is great but you probably won't find that in stock.

Bermuda can be an easy grass to deal with. Full sun, great recovery, handles herbicides really well.

Gonna put peat moss down tomorrow. Should I still fert as well or just stick to the peat moss?

Update:

Lawn is doing better. Still a long way to go, but better.

I laid down 1/4 peat moss down a few months ago, treated with Scott's disease ex and watering for around 30 min every other day or so.
It's still struggling though.
Any advice is appreciated.
Also, I have done the screwdriver test and I have some spots that are well compacted. When would I look at aerating?
The front yard isn't super level so I'd like to do some top dressing. Should I just use Mason sand or mix in some compost/peat moss to help give the lawn some nutrients?
Last item on the front yard I have these yellowing spots showing up that were not there a week ago. I can only think is from the riding lawn mower?

Is this a lost cause? Should I throw down some bermuda seed and topsoil?
This area does gets afternoon shade starting around 3 or 4 pm.

The back yard is in much better shape.
Need some weed ID and what to use.
I have some chamber bitter that isn't pictured that is in flower beds among mondo grass. Anything I can spray that will kill it and not the mondo?

A big issue now is it is hot and dry. Watering the lawn is simply keeping it alive. It is not really getting thicker. You can aerate now. Refresh my memory. What grass type is the front? The back was taken over by common bermuda right?

You can spray diluted glyphosate to kill the chamberbitter.

The weed is crabgrass. At this point I'd leave it alone. Next February-April you can put down prodiamine. That is a crabgrass pre em.

The one picture of the front lawn looks like tire tracks or you have a Scott's spreader that is famous for dropping fert.

St. Aug in the front. Which is why I was asking about seeding because that seems cheaper than resodding, if I needed to go that route.

Common bermuda in the back which I'm fine with. I like the way it looks and so far has held up better to the dogs.

Are those tracks in the lawn anything you can think of? Have you fertilized, how long ago, and what kind?

Only thing I can think of is a riding lawnmower.
I usually cut my own grass but I have a 1 month old so I hired someone to get me through the summer.
Haven't put fert down since end of June and those just showed up a day or two ago it seems like.
I used milorganite and a Scott's broadcast spreader.

Fert again. Your spreader and the mower need to go perpendicular to the lines.

Thanks ronk!

So for the diluted glyphosate to kill the chamber bitter, I just dilute round up? How much?

This is in the mondo grass and St. Aug. It's not going to kill those too?

Did some research and I can't find how much I need to dilute glyphosate to kill the chamber bitter, but I did find a roundup for lawns product that claims to kill chamber bitter. Would this be safe to use in the mondo grass/flower bed?
It is starting to creep into the st. Aug.

Do you have the concentrate or just a bottle of round up?
