I know this is frowned upon but it can be done safely

How much for electrician to come run connection for me to use generator to power select circuits?

It is frowned upon because it can't be done safely.

just do it right and connect a main disconnect for the house so you can disconnect the main line and power the house with a generator.

dont be stupid and burn up your appliances

The dude is asking about a suicide plug and you are telling him to install a disconnect to run it.

The whole point of a suicide plug us that you are too cheap to install the proper connections.

We have been back feeding forever.

Sure there are safer ways I guess but it's worked for us fine.

Just always make sure your main is off to keep from back feeding to the grid.

I shut off all the breakers then once I get the generator running I kick on the dryer breaker and start adding from there.

We run a 17,500 kw generac and power the central ac, and pretty much the whole house we just dont switch on the stove, water heater, microwave, dishwasher and large things that aren't necessities

That’s a little much to be back feeding through a 30 amp dryer circuit.

I provide a properly sized inlet, 50-100 ft. SO cord sized for the output of the generator and two locking cord caps (male for generator, female for inlet), and a lockout device for the main panel so you can’t run the generator without turning off the main breaker.

Starts at $750

Get a gas dryer. Why do you need your dryer? Can't hang dry stuff? Seems like the last thing I'd worry about honestly.

But yes as said you can do above and just turn all your breakers off you don't need.

ETA: I see now people do this as the plug in to the rest of their panel? What kind of dumbassery is that? Do it the right way and get an electrician to add a shut off to the main supply and to add a way to plug in your generator. Goodness.

Might have to find a buddy. Its against code...at least here it is.

ETA: Not the transfer switch, the adding a plug to backfeed.

I have a gas dryer already with electric connections

I hate dealing with extension cords and would prefer a switch

Will lucky so come do it in BR?

Im sure you can find someone, if you do the backfeed thing you might just have to pay someone to remove it if you sell the house.

Ya, i wouldnt dump any money in that house since you are selling in a couple years. It won't add any value.

A proper...and by proper I mean legal, safe and up to code...switch/interlock and generator feed in would certainly add value to a home. It would to me anyway.

just get a breaker interlock kit and a flanged inlet, and do it the right way, it's not hard or expensive to have done right
