you guys planting blackberries on purpose are making me want to break things. I could spend the rest of my life trying to get rid of the dewberries in my yard and not even make a dent.

There are a lot of wild blackberries along the streets close to me and they are starting to get leaves. It is too wild and snakey for me to pick them. I love blackberries, but I hate the seeds. The deer usually gets them.

I had triple crown thornless years ago. They were large sweet berries but required a LOT of space that I didn’t have. Thornless are not as productive but if I had room I would grow them again. I’m in central Alabama and had no cold weather issues.

but required a LOT of space

Was that because of the spread and size of each bush or due to the spreading with runners?

Each bush was like 5x5’ as I recall.

Half of mine survived the freezes the last two years and are doing well. They produce great, but I fight an uphill battle between birds, chickens, squirrels, rabbits, and the pasture mice.
