Built 2 years ago and this was something I looked closely at. I was told hardy is too heavy to hang overhead. Was told they make something called a smart board that is OSB and Hardy backed. Only comes in smooth tho. As for floating hardy, forget it. Parents did it on the walls of their pool cabana and after a year or so, all the seems start to show.
Can't say that I've ever seen painted v groove pine painted before pics above. But that looks really nice with the white.
I ended up going with pin beaded boards.
I'm also foamed the entire house. So my porch ceiling is insulated. Hard to tell if it makes a difference, since the open patio has plenty of heat. I think it makes a difference right now, but in July and August, there ain't a damn thing you can do about heat besides stay inside.
