I have a one year old centipede lawn that was hit with the late freeze. It is thin in some spots and has been treated with insect control and pre emergent as per board recommendations. This is the current status of my lawn and it is not as thick and healthy looking as I’d like it to be. The hardest hit spots are under two large oak trees, but the lawn gets plenty of mid day sun. We have kept it watered, as needed. Still bagging on weekly grass cuts. Any advice to get my lawn in better shape is appreciated.

That is just about what optimal centipede looks like. Such a shitty grass. If you haven't aerated and fertilized I'd do that. Make sure it is a core aeration and for fert 16-0-8

Can you rent aerators or the old fashioned shoe type?

I took a metal rake to my dead centepede and fertilized and watered the area twice a day for 3 weeks and it's just about fully covered with grass now.

Rent a core aerator.

Soak it with water. An oak tree can consume up to 100 gallons of water per day.

We had a record drought last fall, with a record arctic blast. The two combined put a hurting on all plants and grasses.

We are now dry and hot. Centipede will shrivel in a few days with no water in this heat. It needs a deep watering every 2-3 days depending on your soil type.

What type fertilizer did you use?

Sta-green natural fertilizer from Lowes. I don't know much about this stuff so I just got that and watered a bunch. Seemed to work.
