Am I responsible for keeping trees trimmed back that are growing over the road?

May be a stupid question... but I have a couple of oaks that are starting to get pretty low over the road in the neighborhood. Am I responsible for keeping them trimmed up enough that way trucks (FedEx etc) can pass under without hitting them? Is it the parish (EBR)?
I try to keep them cleaned up a bit with my poll saw, especially over my driveway. At some point I’ll have to call up someone to clean them up a bit b/c it will be out of my hands. In other words I don’t want to harm the trees b/c I’m just cutting stuff back that doesn’t need to be.

since you are in a neighborhood, yes you are responsible. the parish would only be responsible if you lived on a main road. i worked for a tree company for a while. We even used to do work for folks on main roads because they didnt want to wait on the city or parish

I guess it depends on your HOA and local laws. My HOA would say yes and its enforced.

That’s what I figured. They are super low b/c I usually keep up with them. But, I guess they are growing “out” now. I’ll need to get the bigger stuff trimmed back eventually before they get to stupid.

As pointed out, it will be dictated by local ordinance and/or neighborhood covenant/HOA. In any event,if you like your tree, you don't want a municipality or utility company to do it because they will have no concern for what the results look like. You would likely have no recourse if they do a crappy job.

In Alexandria, the city will leave you a note in your mailbox telling you that if you do not trim by a certain date, they will come do it. I felt sorry for the people who didn't do it them selves because the city just sheared the limbs off vertically with no thought of how the tree should look. Looked terrible.

As others have said, if you want the tree to be pleasing to the eye, do it yourself or hire someone. If the parish or Entergy does it, they will be aggressive.

Appreciate the help.
Got it trimmed back a good bit. I’ll probably get a tree company out at some point to clean it up.
