Adding Outlet to Exterior Wall - Piggy-backing off Interior Outlet

I’m looking to add an exterior outlet on this Hardie plank wall. Directly on the other side of that wall (inside my garage) there’s an existing outlet, and my plan is to piggy-back off that circuit to feed the new exterior receptacle.
I’ve added plenty of interior outlets this way, but I want to make sure the approach is the same for an exterior install. Can I use an old-work box on the outside wall just like I would indoors? If so, would that allow me to mount a weather-resistant, cover like this:
And then just caulk around the box/cover to seal it?

get a non metallic outdoor single or double gang box with a rear punchout and the in- use cover that fits it. the cover will come with inserts to carry the outlet and a foam gasket

A setup like this?
What's the benefit of non metallic over metallic?
Oh is it more like this:

Is there a GFCI outlet that this will be tying into?

Yes, the outlet in the garage that I planned on piggy backing off of is a GFCI outlet.

non metallic = no rust
those are just two different types of the same thing. If you plan to leave a bulky plug in place with the lid closed you may need the deeper lid ring
