if you ever think you'll be digging around in your backyard again near that PEX line, you may want to put a metal wire or something so you can locate it again. Or if its a straight line and obvious nevermind.

Yeah it’s a straight line and will be a no brainer to find. But that is great advice!

This will look great!
I assume this will be for hand watering if you aren’t running the irrigation system?

I'm thinking I'm going to go ahead and plant my tomato seedlings this weekend. They are getting kinda leggy and I need to get them in the ground. I need to start them later next year. I'll probably wait til after the cold to plant peppers.

The reason I'm doing this is to set up the multi zone automated timer out in the garden instead of having it on the hose bib on the house and running multiple lines out to the garden. But you just made me realize that it would be awfully convenient to use a small, light hose right there in the garden if necessary.

Mine are starting to get a little big for the pots as well. I'm going to wait until about mid week and if there are no sub 40 degree nights in the forecast I'll start putting them in. Some mid 40's are not ideal but the plants will be just fine.

It’s getting crowded in here. I had to go to larger pots last weekend. Low of 44 next wk. they’ll be fine for another week I suppose.

Wind gusts between 35 and 40 tonight combined with those projected lows have me moving my seedlings. Moved to a corner protected from the wind today and then I’ll move them back to the garage for those lows later this weekend.

Good reminder I need to go bring mine in out of the wind. Not as worried about the temps later, but I'm a few degrees warmer here in town.

I did the same project in January

At least the ground was soft.

That definitely helped. I had to douse myself with insect repellent, too. Mosquitoes were tearing me up.
Starting on the digging the two ends that are in the flower bed and garden in a couple of minutes. After that it shouldn’t take me long to connect all the piping. Then I’ll just have to fill it all back in.

It's all fun and games until you hit that 3" oak or pecan root.

Nice work. Hard part is over.

Got everything connected. No leaks!
I cut a toilet paper roll in half to use as a form to fill the crimp area with a silicone RTV. Those PEX crimps may be stainless steel, but I figured I’d at least seal them up to protect them. They’ll be buried underground after all.

That RTV will take a few hours to cure. My son has a soccer game soon so this is a perfect stopping point. Gonna try to finish everything this afternoon!

Looks great Pillage! I can’t wait see the finished product.
Stopped at the local seed store and picked up some peppers, herbs and seeds to go in next week.
Also… I may have gotten in over my head. I grabbed a couple strawberry plants, so now I need to figure out what to do with them. So here are my many questions:
Since I’m really growing them for next year and to establish runners, would it be ok to put them in some containers? Or should I go ahead and build another box?
If I build another box, I need to better protect it from invasive tree roots (I posted last week about finding webs of roots in my other raised beds I had to remove). Avoiding the roots is not an option, I’ll have to double down on landscape fabric. If I have to go this route, is a 4x4 sufficient for strawberries? I have an old plastic sandbox that I can also convert.… it may actually fit in fairly well aesthetically
How easily do strawberries transfer to another location and then produce well again the following season?
How many runners and additional plants should I expect from the two I bought? Should I get a few more?

Job complete! All I have to do now is run the irrigation lines.
I’ll try to tackle your questions later. I have an event that I’m fixing leave for. Hopefully someone else can jump in and help you out.

I always subscribe to the plan of plant then where you want them. Why say you are growing for next year? You could have plenty of berries of them this year. You never know between drought or freeze whether they’ll make it.
Yes, on the size of the box. What’s the worst that could happen? It’s plants, not nuclear weapons.

That’s what the nursery said. He said maybe a few berries.

I had 5-6 strawberry plants last year. We picked dozens of berries off them. The plants died in the heat of this past summer but we absolutely got our money’s worth out of them.
