Ended up going with this. I haven't put it out yet just checking here first before I screw something up. Prodiamine product.

Very good product, Prodiamine. I and numerous others that post on the H&G board use it. It doesn’t control everything, lawn burweed for example, no pre-emergents do, but you should be pleased with the results. Re-apply in late winter, usually before mid-Feb, for spring and early summer weeds.

While mowing the lawn Monday I came across the dreaded white moths fluttering in the lawn. This is a fairly new re-sodded lawn, centipede, at the end of June. I had some spectracide that I spread with the Speedy Green spreader I own. Am I following the correct protocol, or should I be approaching this differently? Also, lack of rain has stressed my lawn under a few trees, which is expected, and we are spot watering as needed.

Here is a fact sheet on tropical sod webworms and it lists recommended control insecticides - bifenthrin is not listed as a control measure but it should, I don’t know if it was an oversight but I’ve doubled checked with the AgCenter extension lawn specialists on this.
Tropical Sod Webworm LSU AgCenter Fact Sheet

I don’t know the active ingredient in the Spectracide insecticide you used - you can compare it against the list of recommended insecticides in the fact sheet + bifenthrin. You may need to re-apply whatever you use in a couple weeks if it has no residual life and b/c it’s granular you should water it in - follow the label directions on the insecticide you are using.

I haven’t had sod webworms in a couple years but when I do I typically use bifenthrin insecticide - in the past I’ve used granular Hi Yield Bug Blaster II (0.2% bifenthrin) and water it in - it has a residual life of 2 or 3 months.

I used Triacizide(SP) by Spectracide. It includes treatment for sod worms and grubs, and other insects. I will get some of the product you recommend and treat again (will wait till the weekend). I treated this past Monday and I walked the grass yesterday evening and there was not near as much activity as on Monday. Thanks for the tips CrawDude.

Also, is there any preventative weed control I should supply in the near future (new centipede lawn laid end of June 2022)?

Just remember you are targeting the caterpillars that cause the damage not the adult moths, so the recommended insecticides in the article are most effective on the caterpillars.

Pre-emergent - I’d suggest either Prodiamine (product listed a few posts above) or Dimension applied in the next couple weeks. However, you are about 3 months since you’ve laid sod - you probably right on the edge, time wise, of being able able to use pre-emergent herbicide, which label states should only be applied to established lawns. If you believe your new lawn is well rooted in, then you can use it. Otherwise just wait until late winter (mid Feb) to target spring weeds.

How many pounds of Perennial Rye Grass seed per 1,000 sq foot will I need to wintergrass my Centipede yard?

None. You want annual ryegrass. 1 pound per thousand will usually do the trick.

Need some help with fixing these spots in my front lawn. New Orleans area. Was told it’s Zoysia though there is some St Aug mixed in in some areas. No clue what’s caused the issue. The first two might be from neighborhood dogs. Big dead patches just appeared 2 or 3 weeks ago. Last pic does have a little tree cover, but lawn faces East. Gets full morning sun.

I’m watering three days a week. Maybe not for long enough, or maybe those spots aren’t getting good coverage. I’ll have to check next time. Is there anything in the short term that can be done to bring it back or just a wait and see at this point?

Was a tad late putting down dimension this year. Put it down a week ago. Probably way to late but we shall see.

Have some dead spots and some bare spots in my St Aug yard. Saw a video on YouTube that said rake out the dead grass and top with a mixture of black cow manure and some sand to promote regrowth.

Anyone agree with that and is this something I can do this weekend with it being cold? Or best to wait til early Spring?

That was a bad video considering nothing is growing now. Use a thin layer peat moss in the spring.
