Seems like most places have a max length of 96”, anyone ever found any longer or have another idea for something similar that I should be looking for?

For that long a span, I'd go with pipe, 3/4" minimum.

The load will be light, it won’t be weighed down by clothes.
But you might be right for length options.

Does it need to be wooden? You mention load will be light and that pipe might be an option…
You can easily connect two wooden rods together if it’s a light load.
Or, if metal is okay and it’s fairly light, there’s plenty of curtain rods that are >96”.

It's about the slenderness ratio of the section. The longer your span the higher the radius of gyration required. I wouldn't be surprised if a wood rod that length deflects a couple inches under its own weight.

If it needs to be wood, you can get a 12’piece of full round. Like mentioned above it will sag under its own weight. You would need to put a support halfway. If it doesn’t have to be wood, I use heavy wall conduit. Usually 1 inch. I hate a sagging closet rod.

I’m using it as a curtain rod so weight is pretty light. It’s up in a recessed area so standard curtain road holders that stick out from the wall won’t really work. Can really only slot it in to those half circle brackets on each end.

In that case you can use just about anything but a middle support will be needed.
