The typical response to a nuisance troll is to ban them, but this leads to alters coming back and doing the same thing until they escalate to the nuisance point again. What if instead of banning trolls they get branded with a special avatar/sig picture? I bring this up because a certain PT troll that is on at least his second alter account has been "borrowing" other PTers avatars in what can only be an effort to camouflage his trolling. If all of the publicly recognized trolls bore the mark, they'd be easier to ignore, especially for the people that don't realize the idiot ripping Tyreke is the same idiot that said Aaron Brooks > Drew Brees.

Some probably would, but there is presumably a certain amount of effort that goes into creating alter. I think the odds are higher that some people would go out of their way to earn a troll badge than would go out of their way to create an alter account. So my solution isn't perfect and I'm open to feedback. But seeing how half the help board threads seem to be about nuisance posters, I figure banning trolls isn't working like it should. The help board used to be the hidden gem of TD, now it's being used for its intended purpose.

While I like your solution better, I have a feeling it would be harder to implement for Dhillip. Remember how hard name changes are to get around here. The Avatar approach seems like it could be handled manually by any admin.

IDK, if you get labeled as a troll by everyone, I think you fail as a troll.
I think trolls that took pleasure in their trolling would NOT want a scarlet letter.
