Please update the img feature on the website so that .gifv files can be used on the site.

The main difference between a GIF and a GIFV is that GIFVs have better compression and can play back at higher frame rates than GIFs:
Compression: GIFVs use advanced compression to reduce file size without sacrificing image quality.
Frame rate: GIFVs can play back at higher frame rates, which results in smoother animations.
Color palette: GIFs have limited color palettes.
File size: GIFs can have large file sizes.

Just backspace over the “v” and it will play.

I mean, give me a url of a .gifv
I want to see what happens...we don't do anything special for image rendering...we are just using the html img tag...

I am aware but does not load or play as fast if we were allowed to upload as a .gifv

I may be wrong, but I believe what you're essentially asking is for video support to be added.
As I understand it, GIFV is not actually a real format, it's just a way to indicate that the linked "image" file will actually be served as a WebM or MP4 (video) file.
Go back and look at the two examples you linked above — they are both actually MP4 files playing in a new browser window (on a different site).
In order for it to work natively on this site, I'm guessing the img tag would either have to support MP4, or new markup like the embed feature would have to be added. (Whichever option didn't bog down the site or melt older hardware.)
All that being said, if it wasn't a huge pain in the arse, I actually like this idea too. Those videos do look great, and I think that's essentially the format that twitter and other social media sites use for their embedded media. I can't tell you how many times I've converted an MP4 to a terrible-looking, choppy GIF just so I could try and post some stupid joke as a reply on here.

Yes, I agree, this is a pain in the arse.

Nearly impossible. Such a technical feat would mean implementing the <video> tag, which has only existed in the HTML spec since 2014.

Sounds like you're making an excuse for being the Brian Kelly of gif posting.
