TD Search Help -- Google Tips

TigerDroppings' search feature can be very useful, and it will be the only way to get up-to-the-second search results for the foreseeable future. The Google search option on the search page adds a little more power to your searches, but it is still kind of limited. For the following examples we will be using a normal Google search at google.com. Keep in mind that Google can't index the site every second, but they do seem to crawl it quite often and anything more than an hour old will most certainly be indexed by Google.

We will start with the very simple search term germans:

This returns over 40 million results on Google. Now let's add site:tigerdroppings.com to our query, like so:

You can do this on Google with any site to limit your search. This has narrowed it down to about 75,000 results, which is still quite a lot. Is "germans" a popular word around here or something? Anyway, this is roughly the same result you will get by using the Google option on TD's search page. We obviously don't want to trudge through 75,000 results, which is why we're using Google's main search page. Now, let's assume that we remember the thread had something to do with LSU's band, so we will add intitle:band to our query.

This intitle keyword works here because the site sets the title of the page to whatever the title of the thread is. This isn't important, just know that it works. Now we're down to 135 results, which might be good enough. If it's not, you can click "more search tools" on the left of your results, and then limit your search by time. You can limit by the past hour, day, week, month, year, or set a custom range like November through December of last year.

Another useful thing to know is that putting quotes around your terms forces Google to search for the phrase exactly as typed. A search for germans bruh is not the same as a search for "germans bruh". This works for your actual search term, as well as part of the intitle keyword, like intitle:"germans bruh".

I think it's pretty common for people to want to find where someone replied to them. To do this, simply use "to Korkstand" as one of your search terms. This is especially useful when you post in a thread before lunch, only to find it has exploded into 50 pages when you return. Doing this:

should return links to each page in the thread where someone has replied to you.
