How about a notifications feature similar to Facebook?

Whenever someone replies to a thread after you've posted in it, you get a notification. Subsequent posts to the thread are grouped into the original notification so as to consolidate and prevent it from getting overwhelming for the social butterflies among us.
You would, of course, have the option to unsubscribe from any thread you've posted in to not receive any further notifications.

This would only be cool for non-popular posters such as yourself (no offense).
When I start threads they sometimes go 200 pages and people reply to my witty posts in existing threads. Getting several thousand notifications a day would be very annoying.
Plus it encourages not reading the board and just checking to see if anyone responded to your troll.

Did you not read? You'd get one notification, not thousands. If one thread is blowing up your notifications, unsubscribe.

I don't post as much as I did back in the day. The board has gotten so big, by time I get to a thread, my POV has already been stated by someone else and ripped to shreds by 5 others.

We already had the email notifications (RIP). They kinda sucked. I'm thinking more like somewhere on/near the TD banner at the top of the screen alerting you to a notification. Just click to view a list of them. Like on Facebook or on your phone. Similar concept.

I don't have Facebook, but I think maybe the way Dropbox notifications work would be a decent way to implement it.

Not familiar with that, but I'm sure they would come up with something visually and functionally appealing. Chicken and Circus are pretty good at that from what I've seen around here.

I don't know. I'm neutral to the idea in theory. I wouldn't recommend it though for game and IM threads. Oh and prayers sent to the OP of APTB if such a feature was around then.
How would this notification work? Email? A notifications tab next to my profile, posts, and bookmarks?
Why don't you ask Chicken about this idea in the TD conference room and see what he thinks?

I think the head fowl in charge should develop TD apps (desktop and mobile) that incorporate an adaptable notification function.

I always thought it was weird this board doesn't have a notification type system.
Almost any other board out there has a subscribe/unsubscribe thread option or a see new replies to your posts option.
I wouldn't mind it, could just make a + sign next to the bookmark star to subscribe, and have it turn into a - sign if you're already subscribed to it for easy one click subscribe/unsubscribe.

Most other boards use some sort of php or bulletin board system.
The main appeal of this board to me is its simplicity and minimalism. I find other boards too cluttered and busy.

And how about a java enabled chatroom link for the devilish IMers on here who have to turn every thread into a personal chat session with their buddy who they could just as easily text or call. The chat would have a main room only. No private messages or any of that nonsense.
