Spine Surgeon Recommendation

It appears that I'll need c6/7 disc arthroplasty aka disc replacement surgery. Looking for a second opinion, and wondered if anyone here would recommend a Doc at the neuromedical center in BR.
Also, if you have had the procedure.... any tips? Tia.

My dad had C4/C5 fusion done about 10 years ago. He's in SE Alabama, so not much help in recommending anyone in Louisiana. He's a Neurologist, so he knew who to go to in his city. But his recovery time wasn't that bad. He had to wear a brace for about a month. I think he said they used hip bone from a cadaver for the disketomy, but the procedure took a few hours. He was back home that evening, and I don't think there was much as far as PT goes. Just healing time, and he has a limited range of movement now. But the pain was gone almost instantly. Just some stiffness from time to time. They went in through the front of his neck.

Apparently disc replacement is newer and preferred these days. Im 34, so I'm hoping for a one-and-done surgery.

Had C5 disc replaced in May of this year. Take the week off to recover after, I went back too soon. Pain was gone immediately. I’m active in work and also lifting again, just not heavy. I highly recommend the surgery.

If you are going the neuro route, I hear Kelly Scrantz is good.

Ferachi or Oberlander at Neuro or McCarthy at Bone and Joint.
Who did you go to for first opinion?

Ferachi was my first opinion. I don't doubt his ability, just want to do the responsible thing.

No personal experience, but from family members who had back surgeries, you should get a neuro if you're going to get a back surgery. They seem to have a higher success rate than orthos.

If you're willing to travel, I recommend Dr. James Antinnes with southern bone and joint in Hattiesburg. He's an active athlete who competes in triathlons and a serious hunter, and he's got a really good grasp on what normal folks deal with day to day. He dealt with my son with a minor injury a couple of years back.
Great guy, and his resume is extremely impressive.

Oberlander is awesome. Did mine recently and it was a game changer. If he is good enough for LSU athletes and pro athletes he was good enough for me. He came highly recommended

I’m having a mobi-c put in, C6/7 same as you.
I’m having it done by Justin Owen out of covington. After seeing 5 different surgeons all around LA, felt he was the guy.

What did you have installed and where. How’s recovery been?

I don’t know about BR but used Dr Nunley at the Spune Institute in Shreveport to do a C4/5 fusion about 6 years ago and I’m 100% satisfied. In my opinion it’s better to get it over with instead of waiting until a older age. I was 40 then and now 50. How old are you? I also did pain injections for a couple years and found out that I still was going to have surgery so I’d not let them talk you into that because basically I was a source of income until the surgery was done...
