I have what I believe to be repetitive use injury from running about 10 years ago. My body is not a typical runner's body (heavy set, stocky) but I managed to run a few half-marathons. I distinctly recall 'pushing through' pain in this part of my left leg (starting at IT band running across the lower part of the quad above the knee cap, however mostly focused on IT band). The symptoms are burning, sharp pain when standing too long, sharp pain in the morning when I first move the leg, and numbness. The pain can present itself when I'm sitting but normally it's after being on my feet too long.

I've been living with this nuisance for several years even after working with several physical therapists (stretching, ASTYM, dry needling). I am looking for the next level of treatment. My small bit of research suggests deep tissue laser therapy and/or shockwave therapy.

Does anyone have any experience with this type of deep tissue (scarring?) injury and treatment? Can anyone recommend a doctor/therapist they have had good success treating such a injury?

Thanks for your help.

Try a trigger point gun. I’ve used the hell out of mine since I got it
over a year ago. It’ll be painful at first, but once you get to where you can push it deep into the muscles, the muscle adhesions will begin to breakup and you’ll feel great. I’ll use mine for up to an hour some nights. Damn near head to toe.

Whatever treatment(s) you find that helps needs to be done most days of the week for years (if not lifelong), even when the discomfort has subsided.

When we are getting our body into “shape” (weights, running, sports, etc.), what gets the best results? Exercising once in awhile or most days of the week?
When we start decreasing our effort/days, we start falling out of shape. Therapy on our body is the same concept.

I've been working on this issue for years and want to be more aggressive. I have a trigger point gun bought specifically for this issue but it hasn't given me results. I get what you're saying regarding therapy and will have no problem continuing with treatment, but I have to find something that works first. The hope is that I can do an aggressive treatment to get things moving in the right direction and then trigger point gun/ASTYM, etc. can keep me in a good place. Subtle treatments over a long period of time have not solved the issue nor reduced my symptoms.
