Preface: The most i have ran in the last 15-16 years was 2 miles... a Crossfit WOD for time. i forget what my time was. Anyway, our coach put a challenge our there 2 weeks ago to do the Paris Mountain 20K in Greenville, SC.
Ignorance is bliss so i said I'd do it. im doing a half iron man next year so i figured this would be a good base line of where my running ability is and how much i need to improve. i ended up finishing in 1 hr and 49 min. Beat my goal of 2 hrs so i was really exited. i turn 34 next week and weigh 210lbs. My only training is Crossfit (religiously) for the last 4.5 years. This is not intended to be a brag thread. I'm just really proud of myself knowing what kind of shape i was in 5 years ago. Drank a lot, smoked, sedentary lifestyle. About to be 34 and am literally in the best shape of my life. and yes, i believe Crossfit (aside from my mental determination) has played the biggest part in getting me where i am today.
P.S. Went to a store here and got fitted for some running shoes. Mizuno WaveRider felt the best to me so thats what i went with.

With over 2500 vertical feet of elevation gain, 89 curves, and some hills at 15% grade, the Paris Mountain Road Race 20k lives up to its billing as the TOUGHEST RACE IN THE SOUTH. The race starts at Furman, ascends the north side of Paris Mountain, descends on the south side, and uses the hilly back roads at the base of the mountain to return to Furman. We are honored to have been chosen to host the 2017 Road Runners Club of America South Carolina 20k Championship
