Baws. 2-3 years ago I hurt the old back lifting. Felt it down my left leg, but the majority of the pain is in butt and outside hip. I went to the DR at the time, had xrays, and they said there was nothing major wrong with the spine structure. I know there are some major muscles back there. The pain will go away, but any major lifting and I feel it. If I twist just right, it really hurts. Any specific excerises to strengthing those hip muscles?

Piriformis syndrome. Look it up on YouTube.

Do pigeon pose stretches, strengthen butt and hamstring, lacrosse ball to the muscle, and get stronger in the abs.

It's a muscle that goes over the sciatic nerve and if inflamed, it will push on it causing pseudosciatica

Deadlifts helped the most for me

Try using a TENS unit also with the exercises. It won't heal it, but it will dull the pain so you can get more mobility and not strain something else down the line.

Might want to also confirm that it isn't a bulging disc that is referring pain to those areas. I just dealt with a situation like that and it was brutal.

Would yours completely go away? Thats what is weird about this.

That's a tough question. The one I had most recently ended up being fully herniated, so I had to get surgery (so no, that one was NEVER going to go away). But what I'm realizing now is that in the past several years, anytime I thought I had "tweaked" my left lower back/upper butt, it really was very likely to have been a protruding disc. I'd go easy on it for a week or so and it would fully ameliorate. I think it's possible that you have discs that protrude from time to time (most everyone does), but hard to say if it's applicable to you. "Referred pain" really is a confusing motherfricker, though. I was actively surprised when my disc was finally diagnosed, because the pain in my mind's eye was very far from my spine. Good luck with this shite.

Thanks, yes! To an amazing extent. I went into surgery with an 8-9 constantly down my left leg and woke up with literally zero symptoms. I'm in PT now and then hopefully back into the gym soon - the main inhibitor is the surgery site itself. I really hope this isn't what you have.
