Why do a ratio?

Sugar is honestly the devil in my mind. Very lucky I don't crave sweet things.

I see your point; and less (or no sugar) is best, regardless of protein content. But if I see 1g sugar and 2g protein, I value it "less healthy" than 1g sugar and 10g protein, for example.

Except for intra or post workout, sugar is never a good component of a diet. People talk about dietary approaches, but one common aspect is limiting simple sugars.

I take in sugar intra and post workout, which is generally the best time for it, and that usually holds off any additional cravings.

I just view sugar as carbohydrates in my macro breakdown.

Not all carbs are equal though. Sugar is essentially garbage energy. Other than for use as a quick energy form in endurance sports, it's pretty much useless.

I don't disagree. There's a distinct difference of 1 gram of carb from sugar and a gram of carb of rice, for the way you might feel.

but 1 carb = 4 calories, and that's all I care about really.

But if we're talking about being the healthiest you that you can be. Then eat no sugar.
