How much protein is too much in a given serving? I ingest a 48g-shake after each workout and again before bed, in addition to my already high-protein diet. I'm just wondering if I'm wasting any protein powder by doubling the serving size (24g) for each serving. I've been told your body can only absorb so much at a time.

Analysis of studies

That link goes through a lot of variables. In short, 20-40 g is a range within which variables affect the optimal amount per person.

Post-training is an optimal time for a larger dose.

I've recently cut back on protein before bed because of getting concerned that the thermic effect of digestion combats sleep by raising body temp when it needs to be lowered.

The article lays out relevant variables, but bodyweight is a good starting point.

Depending what your goal is, I know there are many variables in play...but I go the 1-1.2 g per body weight.

Yeah, I get plenty of protein per day. I'm just worried that my body might not be absorbing as much as I'd like throughout the day due to the serving sizes.

I wouldn't worry about this. Its almost irrelevant for a normal person
