well I'm going to start the David Goggins 4x4x48 challenge today

first run will be at 3 pm (wanted to start at 11 but have a meeting)

I'll keep a log here of how much this sucks in case anyone else is interested in doing it

also just for accountability reasons since the more I talk about it in public, the less likely I'll quit halfway through

Could we do like 4 12s instead and say knock it out in about 36? Or is it one of those things where it's not strictly against the rules, but violates the spirit of the game?

yeah I think part of the point is the mental aspect of barely any sleep for 48 hours

Cool I wish you luck. Personally, I think you have it in the bag.

This challenge seems like it would be one of those things that would be fun while going on a 2 day bender. I can totally see a 20 year old Burt attempting this completely fricked up while camping in the wilderness with some buds.

I have kids, so I have plenty of experience with only getting 2-3 hours of sleep at a time, and that lasted months

I think I can handle 2 days

That sounds like hell. I've seen people do 1x1x24 also. I might make it through 5 runs before I crapped out.

You wouldn’t dehydrate from all the sweating and boozing?

Sure, doesn’t mean that young Burt wouldn’t have tried. I’m not currently a bright individual, but 20 years ago, there’s a good chance I would have tested positive for full blown retardation.

Right! Add to that David Goggins makes me nauseous, so I wouldn't do it based on that alone, haha. I respect his achievements of course, but can only handle about 30 seconds of his schtick.

Got a track w/o in yesterday and long run today. Needless to say my legs are trashed. Not ideal by any means, but just the way the schedule worked out. Weather has been phenomenal; already dreading Summer though.

I honestly had no idea it was a David Goggins thing until I researched the "rules"

anyways

Round 1 down

a little faster than I wanted at 9:13 pace as I'm trying to be overly cautious on these first few runs, but oh well, it was a gorgeous run and it felt good

Yeah sorry

Round 2 was uneventful as still feel fresh. Really focused on slowing down to my goal pace of 9:30.

Just kinda hanging around now till 11 for round 3
