Ok so I just started working with a nutritionist/body builder for meal planning and a work out regimen. He has assigned me with taking in 200g Carbs, 200g Protein, and 50g of fat per day. Doesn't care about calorie count but all of the carbs are "good carbs" (jasmine rice, quinoa, etc). Does this sound like a lot for someone that's trying to lose weight at 5'11 225? The calorie count comes out to like 2k. Ive been taking in 1500 in and losing weight but his program is designed to cut weight and add lean mass. That many carbs scares me though haha

Carbs can help add muscle.

Whether that diet will help you lose weight...there are a lot of factors. How many calories are your baseline, how much you've been working out, etc.

My advice, if you're working with a nutritionist, do what he says. If it works, awesome. If it doesn't, he might not be very good.

If you don't do what he says, you just won't know whether he's giving effective advice and might as well program yourself. It's like running 5/3/1, except you make a ton of changes and substitutions. You wind up not running 5/3/1 at all.

I’m interested in your journey.

I’ve tried both and I honestly feel like my body does better on a high carb/low fat diet in means of “leaning” up and maintaining strength.

I got really caught up in the Keto movement and tried it for awhile but my body did not adapt well. Although, I think a lot of the science behind it is sound.

I’ve learned that everyone is made differently and not every vehicle is meant to run off diesel. You’ll just have to give it a shot and listen to your body to see what works for you.

carbs are necessary to gain muscle. i eat about equal grams protein to carbs and i've dropped 15 lbs and i'm a small guy. no idea why people act like carbs generate fat gain. its a dumb misconception the media plays out.

best advice would be get your TDEE, find your maintenance calories and then eat like 3-500 less if you want to lose weight or 3-500 more if you want to gain weight.

get a food scale

Food scale is already in use, im taking in .9 cups of cooked jasmine rice, 6 asparagus spears, 4.1 oz of chicken breasts, and .3 fl.oz of olive oil.

eating that 3 times a day and then taking in a protein shake with oatmeal and natural peanut butter that equals the same macros for breakfast and snack if I need it.

1) he isn't a nutritionist if he doesn't care about calories, find someone else if he says that.

2) that is a typical isocaloric 40/40/20 macro spit

3) those calories are more than likely fine, 1500 was too low unless you worked down to that over time. 2k is low to start at that weight

4) carbs should never scare you, that's stupid. Carb/fat split matter very very little in the overall scheme of things.

5) if he talks about good carbs....well refer to #1

I did the same thing. I hired a nutritionist/bodybuilder at the beginning of the month. Been working out for 6 years and I want to compete within the next 2-3. Similarly, he gave me a workout routine, meal plan, and supplement plan.

The goal is to drop about 20 pounds and lean out, then start packing on size. It will probably take a while for him to get your diet right and figure out your metabolism.

For my cut, he started me out with 150C, 300P, 100F on low days and 300C, 250P, 70F on high. I actually added 3 pounds in the first 2 weeks

Changed it up and I finally started dropping weight, 100C, 250P, 65F on low days. You just gotta be patient, work hard, and understand its going to take some time before it starts to work.

I have been watching my caloric intake since December gradually going down from 2k-1500. The week before I started with him I lost like 3-4 lbs but the reason I started with him is because I want to lose weight and add lean mass. He is a self made pro body builder and definitely told me everything will be adjusted weekly when I send update photos and my logs (weight/measurements/etc).
