Mouth guards while lifting

I have seen Brian Shaw and other big time lifters use these. I always thought it was for people moving insane amounts of weight.
Today while deadlifting I could feel myself clenching my teeth. I don’t want to crack a tooth when I’m trying to hit a PR.
Does anyone already use a mouth guard while lifting? Any recommendations?

I have used one off and on.
A standard football mouth piece when I use one.

Thanks.
That’s what I settled on was a cheap football one. Just something to bite down on. Thick rubber. Not the moldable kind.

I already have cracked teeth and I clench while lifting basically at all. I have a bite guard and I try to remember to wear it but forget most of the time.
I have TMJ also, and I've had some heavy sessions end with my jaw frozen. Not good.

I have faced the same issue. Middle aged lifter, several cracked teeth that led to many crowns and root canals, most of which I am sure is related to clenching my teeth while lifting very heavy weights for years. I tried the store bought ones and they were not the best fit, made me gag, etc. I got my dentist to customize one for me, more low profile, less bulky, and felt like part of my mouth. This is the way to go especially if you have good dental coverage and insurance pays for it (if not it is still worth paying for and not too expensive, MUCH cheaper than one crown or root canal!). It took some getting used to but now it is a must have when I lift heavy.
