really what i need is a watch (ideally) or heartrate monitor that will alert me when i am over a certain heart rate while i'm running.

options so far are:
Garmin 235
Garmin vivoactive 3
Apple Watch 3 (no LTE).

I play some golf so the vivoactive is tempting but i have a laser sight to get an accurate distance. I'm not sure how much i'll get into the other activities and really start tracking EVERYTHING i do. really want a watch that will monitor the heart rate; notify me if i'm too high; and look cool.

Any MAF'rs welcome to offer any other advice that i might need before i get started.

I have a Garmin 225. I like it. The 235 is nice!

Depends if you think you’ll get into triathlons. Then you can get a 920 or one of the 700’s

if it's of any interest.... DC rainmaker's strava posted a garmin 935, VA3, samsung gear, and apple watch all tracking the same run. Garmin's were pretty dead on. apple was .2 off and samsung was 1.46 miles off.

I used the Garmin with chest strap heart rate monitor. Just be patient, MAF training can get frustrating at times, esp. if you are used to training at higher intensities.

I have no ego when it comes to running so hopefully that will help with the frustration. I do a lot of boot camp stuff with some running but I'm looking at doing some long distance relay races with some buddies. I'm in good shape strength wise and weight wise but cardio endurance is the weakest part of my game. A few of the guys I work out with started with MAF a few months ago and have seen some pretty good results.

Leaning toward the Garmin 235.

It is great for base building if you follow the plan. That means doing the warm up and cool down portions of the run. It takes a lot of time but I was impressed with the results.
