Lifting weights with tennis elbow?

I've only had tennis elbow once, about five years ago and it lasted about 3-6 months. I lifted weights during that time, along with some recovery exercises for tennis elbow that I found online. It sloooowwwwly got better eventually. Since I only play tennis a few times/year, I learned not to overdo it when playing.
I think that I have it again, this time from snow skiing (frequent use of poles between lifts, etc). It's been about five weeks since beginning of strain soreness. For the initial four weeks, I was able to lift weights with minimal discomfort and once again seemed to be sloooowwwly getting better. When I bend my elbow, it hurts if I bend 'too far' (sometimes with a minor pop).
However, last week, felt like I tweaked it doing upright rows (with bar) and dead rows (dumbbells). It swelled up a bit and I've been icing it and resting as much as possible since then. It's much better after five days but I'm itching to lift weights again and think I can do it if I stay away from exercises with too much strain on elbow. Some stuff I've read is that it's better to keep active rather than rest the elbow completely. Anyone have any experience working through this?

It's good to keep the joint active, bad to keep reaggravating it. I would try to select exercises that keep the elbow moving, but with an emphasis on movements that don't produce direct pain.

I have this issue.
Steer clear of awkward movements for your elbow. Upright rows are a never-ever exercise for me. Bench can be done, but need to be really careful about form. If it starts hurting, back off the exercise or back of the weight at a minimum. I’ve found doing a lot of reps inflames it more than doing heavier weights FWIW.
Take fish oil pills to keep the inflammation down. Those are the most effective thing I have tried.

Tennis elbow is a bitch! I got it from stupidly lifting plates with one hand to put them on the bar.
I had to take almost a year off in order for it to heal. I kept re-injuring it so I just quit until it fully went away

i only feel the pain whenever doing any type of bicep curls or lifting any weight above my head

frick tennis elbow, shite is the worst!
I had it for a while, and now it's something I basically thing I'm perennially stuck with as it flares up from time to time.
What sort of exercises did you do to improve it?

Yours may not be as bad as mine plus you could be younger and heal alot quicker than me at almost 50.
I would definitely avoid any exercise like lateral raises which place stress on the joint.
