Flexibility
Has anyone on here gone from stiff as a board to extremely flexible (I'm talking able to do the splits flexible)? Without going into too much detail I am trying to do this or get somewhere close, and it can be pretty discouraging so I was hoping for an uplifting testimony where this has happened. I have definitely gotten more flexible with how much I am stretching and doing hot yoga, but the tightness of my hips/lower back/hamstrings just doesn't seem like I will ever get to where I want to be. I have struggled my whole life with muscle imbalances and pulled muscles due to my naturally tightly-wound body. Once again, I am seeing a bit of progress but don't know if my body will ever let me get too much further. I have considered giving up my gym membership for a year and sticking with just hot yoga and stretching programs to get there, but I am hesitant because I love lifting weights and have seen so many tangible benefits from my gym work (Not to mention hot yoga is quite expensive). Any advice/suggestions/testimonies are more than welcome.

re: Flexibility
I have no insight other than to ask..... how long have you been in this flexibility routine / stage? If it's anything shorter than a year, I would say just keep at it.

re: Flexibility
Take it slow. you may just not have the same joint flexibility as other people. Everyone is built different. The last thing you want to do is destroy your hip joint trying to do a split. If you are flexible enough for the activities you enjoy, be happy with that.

I've been doing hot yoga for about a year once or twice a week, but I have been aggressively stretching for about 3 months. The splits was kind of a long term example, but I still can't completely have a flat back while I touch my toes and that's a shorter term goal that I want to achieve. I honestly think I'm on the right path, but I may need to dedicate even more time to it than I already am and be more patient with my progression

Fair enough. I think patience is the key. This is the reason I am asking because I don't want to push my body too far but also don't want to just assume I am doomed and can't reach my flexibility goals
