I'm back on the horse as of last week. I know it's trite/cliche to get into exercise for the New Year but I really need to.

Over the last year and a half I've battled some serious depression issues. It got pretty dark for awhile. I quit lifting/exercising and put on quite a bit of weight. Like OP, got fat clothes as my regular clothes didn't fit anymore.

Long story short, after going to therapy and seeing doctors, I've finally got meds that make me feel right again. One of the several issues I was dealing with apparently was low T. I'm only 40, and was in beast mode on my 20s.

I don't want to hijack OPs thread, but didn't want to create a new thread either as this one seems pretty pertinent to where I'm at.

Look forward to posting over here more and getting tips/encouragement on the journey. Don't worry OP, I'm in the same boat as you man. Let's get after it!

Food consumption/excess water should stop 2 hours before bed, minimum.

I know this is all subjective and everyone is different but as long as I am in a caloric deficit it doesn’t matter what time I eat. Whether it’s 4 hours before bedtime or 45 minutes before it didn’t make a difference. Again, this is just my experience.

Weight is lost with calorie deficit not exercise

True but it’s a lot easier to have a calorie deficit when you’re burning 700-800 calories a day through workouts.

Gatorade zeros if you need electrolytes.

Absolutely not.

Diet: NOVA 1 group foods mostly.
Movement: be active and exercise.
Sleep: get a full 8 hours.
Stress: learn ways to lower this factor to include switching jobs, which is what i ended up doing.

True.
Daily caloric deficit. Doesn’t matter what time just look at calories for the day.

That is my electrolyte go to. No sugar or artificial sweeteners. Stevia extract and natural flavors. I already drank a good bit of water, but having 1-2 of these in a glass of water each day just made me feel better while working out that night.

From what I've read the main reason people don't encourage you to eat late at night is because your inhibitions are lowered at that time

But if you don't keep high calorie low nutrient density food around for you to snack on at night that solves that issue

Yeah, the easiest way to make good food choices is at the grocery store. If you don't have junky food at home, you're less likely to snack on it. Once you get past that first couple of weeks eating healthy, and realize how much better you feel by cooking and eating real healthy food, it becomes much easier. No more bags of chips or salty/sweet snacks at night. Fill up on protein and healthy fats at dinner and you'll be full and not feel like you need that snack. I keep greek yogurt and some granola around for snacks.

I know most people don't like it but I keep some cottage cheese around at all times. If I get an urge for something sweet I'll have a serving of cottage cheese with some berries or just drizzle a small amount of honey and cinnamon on it
