I am going to start fasting once a week for 24-36 hours. Fasting completely on Sunday and breaking the fast with Monday breakfast.

I have heard and read that fasting 24 hrs once a week can help reduce inflammation, improve cognitive function, and various other mental and physical benefits.

I am not using this to lose weight. My main motivations are gaining more self control over my regular diet and appetite when I am not fasting. I also like the supposed mental boosts it can bring.

What are some of the pros/cons for those of you who have done this or do it in some capacity? Also, I put unsweetened almond milk in my coffee. I know this would technically break the fast, which I am not as concerned about, but more so - would small amounts of this ruin any of the fasting benefits?

If you’re wanting to fast for the benefits, but really aren’t going to be fasting since you’ll be consuming almond milk, which will elicit a metabolic response, I’d ask what’s the point, really?

Drink black coffee or herbal tea with no cream or sweetener that one day. If you have the willpower to fast for 24-36 hours, I’m sure you have the capacity to forego the almond milk.

I’ve done a 24 hour fast about once/month in recent years but considering increasing to once/week. I usually go for Sun dinner through Mon dinner.

I feel like it gives good energy and overall a positive ‘body’ feel. Hunger comes in brief waves and not too bad.

I know it can naturally increase testosterone but not sure how significant.

Well that answers my question. I didn’t know if trace amount of calories (roughly 50-100) would break it and ruin the benefits. Black coffee it is
